I think last night was successful! Everyone sang and everyone got through it. Thank goodness for the second run-through opportunity (I know I needed it.) The nerves were not as bad the second time around. It was great to hear strengths in all the voices last night as well. As Nollie and Amy said prior to us singing, listening is an important part of studio. I really enjoyed hearing all the variations voices can produce! For the most part, I could tell everyone was working on and/or applying techniques taught in Voice. I think we all did a pretty good job for our first group Studio! Hooray! We survived! : )
Yikes, I suppose this is late. But I thought studio class was an absolute blast. It was awesome to get to hear everyone's songs, and I was definitely surprised by a few people whom I have never heard solo before. Nerves were evident, but that's what studio is for, after all. We're all going to ROCK by the end of the semester.
I suppose mine is late as well, but the studio class is still burning my mind. I was so impressed with last weeks studio class! I was not expecting it to be such a success. Like Rachel said, it was apparent that many people were nervous and I wish we had more studios scheduled so that people could get more comfortable. I perform a lot and I was extremely nervous. It was really good for me to sing through my piece a couple of times with Judy and reminded me that I need to schedule more outside lessons with her. This studio class was good for me and many others because it was a learning experience. I was able to apply what I am learning in my lessons and relate it to others performances. I am anxious to see what the next studio class brings, I hope it'll become more of a masterclass so other singers can learn how others fix their technique. I would like to do more of a performance piece next studio.
Rachel and J-leigh, don't worry I'm much further behind than all of you. Yet I am the 4th to respond which means some will be much latter will never show up at all. I was surprised that my performance that night received as much positive feedback as it did. I was still suffering from a serious cold at the time and I felt it really affected the resonance of my voice. It was a good experience learning wise though because it helped me understand that the biggest thing I need to work on is my breathing. I felt like several of my notes didn't last as long as they should and found myself taking a breath wherever I could instead of where the music allowed for. I really am looking forward to the next studio where hopefully I'll be in much better health and unable to hide my shortcomings behind any type of sickness.
